When do you start going to Haunted Houses?

Post by SIEFKA » Sat Aug 10, 2013 12:58 pm

Most years when summer would turn to fall I would start to anticipate Halloween's arrival in late august. This year has been pretty different. It seems as though Halloween had never left. I was excited for next years Halloween in november, then again in may. Part of the reason was I started growing pumpkins this year and I cannot wait to buy power tools and get really good at carving them. Usually I have not gone to Haunted Houses till late September, early Ocotber. I was wondering is it normal for most Haunted Houses to open around September 12, 13? I know Cedar Point Halloweekends doesn't start till September 13th but to me that seems a little early but I will most likely get used to it and enjoy more time to go to them even more. Last year I was able to make it to 15 Haunted Houses thanks to the help of Cedar Point Halloweekends. So when do you guys start going to Haunted Houses?

I just can't wait until next Halloween,
'Cause I've got some new ideas
that will really make them scream!
And, by God, I'm really gonna give it all my might!

our local haunted house opens the first weekend in October. They're usually the first I visit being only 3 miles down the road :)
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

I think around here the commercial haunts open in mid-September, but I haven't gone to them in the past due to their high price (when I would have had to pay for myself and three kids, etc.). Maybe now that the kidlings are growing up, I could venture forth.

Over the years I have mainly participated in the Parks & Rec Halloween carnival, which always takes place on the weekend closest to Halloween. They have a haunted hay ride, etc. And once or twice I have paid to go through corn mazes.

Parks and Rec used to haunt a reconstructed pioneer village in the center of town, which is called Canonsburgh. During the season they would call it Ghoul Town. I actually preferred that haunt to the hay ride they have been doing for a while now, but when they opened up a new park south of town, they moved all the festivities there.

I think the best haunts I've seen over the past ten years or so have been in neighborhoods. One of those streets is quite near me, and it is amazing on Halloween night. The police have to direct traffic. And the Main Street of our town (historic district) is also a happening place on Halloween night. There are also several antebellum homes in the area that do ghost tours during the month of October.

You know, I don't think I have. Maybe I should do that. But then, my cameras are not very good, and I don't think I have one that would take in the whole scene in the dark.

I feel ya. I wish Valley (the closest town near me) would get a little more active for Halloween. I mean, they are loaded down with Christmas stuff of course but not a thing is put up by the city to celebrate October 31st.

I've been promising myself for years that I would take in a haunted attraction for the Halloween season, but so far either time restraints or financial restraints have made it impossible. This October, however, I will be getting 3 paydays, so maybe I can check something out. Maybe I can even manage a 'haunted road trip' at some poing.

It's expensive to get sick.

I hope so, too, but again I am still paying off some medical bills. I do plan to visit a haunted attraction if I can swing it.
