"LITTLE HALLOWEEN' ALERT

Post by Pumpkin_Man » Wed Jul 03, 2013 9:55 am

Hi Folks:

As the Summer continues on, I was looking ahead through the calender and I thought I would post a little reminder about the two Friday the 13ths that will be comming up. The first one will be Friday September 13th. I am actualy going to take the day off from work that day and if there's a good horror movie playing at the Harvestmoon Drive-In, I am going to make a day of it by having dinner at one of my favorite German restaurants, and then see the movie afterwords. I won't really know, however until it gets closer to Sepember 13. When I get home, I am going to screen "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" and an episode of the original "Dark Shadows."

The next "Little Halloween" will actualy be on Friday December 13th. Since that's right smack dab in the middle of all the Christmas season, I am going to screen "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Black Christmas," and the old 1930s rendition of "A Christmas Carol," which while purely a Christmas story, is also a ghost story. Of course, December is also a very busy time for me for photographs, but if I can get that day off from work, I'll do so.

Yes, yes, I know, it's not even the 4th of July yet, but I thought It might be fun to post about "Little Halloween," anyway. I'll post again when it gets closer to the time.

Mike

My daughter just loves your "Little Halloween" tradition, Mike. It has become our tradition, too.

I read somewhere that the first Friday the 13th of the year is 'Blame Someone Else Day'. Sounds good to me.

Murf, that's great to hear. It brings a smile to my fact just knowing that there are others out there who appreciate the macabre as much as I do.

NeverMore, I never heard of that, but since I live alone, there isn't anyone else to blame for things that go awry.

Thanks, Mike! I like that tradition. It's one I'll keep in my Halloween heart :D

I've always looked forward to Friday the 13th whenever it comes around, but had never thought of a "Little Halloween", so I'm glad that you did! Makes it all the more special.

I'm really hoping to get to the Harvest Moon Drive-In for the September Friday the 13th. For the December Friday the 13th, I'll probably just screen 'Nightmare Before Christmas" and a couple of my Universal monster classics.

Ancient, I think it was allways the Harvest Moon Drive In. It opened in the early 50s and has been there ever since. It's a great time, the food is both less expensive and much better quality then at a regular theatre, and it's a lot less restrictive.

Tantraman, that's a good idea. I may screen one of the original "Friday the 13th" movies, or maybe I'll order the 1980s tv series from Netflix and screen a few of those, provided that there is nothing decent playing at the Harvest Moon.

I read yesterday that Disneyland is starting their main Halloween celebration on September Friday the 13th. Way to go Disney!

Wouldn't it be a hoot if someone who who works at Disnay is on this forum and decided to introduce our happy tradition of "Little Halloween" to theme park events?? That is great to hear. Is this the Disneyland in California, or Disney World in Florida?

Cali. I would assume they are doing the same at Disney World in Orlando?

That's more or less what I thought. In Disneyland in California, they have to be a little more creative, because they're land locked, and can't expand the park. Disneyworld in Florida owns countless achers of land, and they keep upgrading every year it seems. I heard that Knot's Berry Farm has a pretty decent Halloween celebration all through October. I haven't been there since I was 14, and it was Spring time. I really loved their narrow gague train ride there.
