The bug has chomped upon me with mighty jaws, my friends. In fact, I was mulling the notion of starting a similar thread not too long ago...good thinking tantraman, and good to see you back onboard!

The day following July 4th, as someone else mentioned, certainly ramps the fever up a few notches, but it seems my Halloween state of mind grows exponentially stronger when the calendar transitions from May to June, as well.

I certainly am not in the business of rushing through the joys of the present, but I perceive June 1 as the final turn introducing the (sometimes dragging) home stretch with Halloween season at its end.

Once goodies hit the shelves, I'm in all out Halloween mode, and September 1st is my own personal official commencement of the present year's Halloween season.

As a quick aside (if you're still reading :-) ) I was grocery shopping yesterday and happened upon an unlikely surprise. Hanging within the candy aisle was a bag of (albeit off brand, I'm a big Brach's fan) candy corn! I was under the assumption stores only carried this hotly debated treat (you either love it or hate it, there is no in-between) in the Fall. Needless to say, I purchased a bag and enjoyed a handful before I started the engine to drive home. As I was relishing the nostalgic sugary flavor, for a split instant, I was in October. Life's simple pleasures, my friends.

I'm just about the same way. The first part of June is when I really start to feel that halloween season is right around the corner! After July 4th, a lot of stores start putting out their autumn and halloween decor so at this time of year I know we are about one month away. Maybe it's just me, and I don't really know how to explain it, but it seems like halloween season takes a long time to get here, but then at the same time it seems like time just flies by.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I've put out a few decorations.

That's the thing, because October flies by so quickly I feel the need to expand the season into prior months in my own ways so it doesn't come and go so rapidly. If I waited until October 1st to get into the Halloween frame of mind it'd all be gone in a flash, and there I'd be, in that anti-climactic state that only Thanksgiving dinner can repair!

"The Bug." I realize that, but some times I type too fast and hit a wrong key.

I know they say not to judge a book (or movie) by its cover, but at first glance I'm erring on the side of suggesting there is slim to no chance of it being good based upon the melodramatic, cartoonish cover art. But hey, campy with a capitol "C" movies are fun romps at times. :D

Then again, my area of Virginia has recently been invaded and subsequently infested with stinkbugs and cicadas, so I'm naturally a little put off by anything bug related these days.

To get back on topic, however, I had some downtime to myself last night and this tread actually inspired me to watch Halloween for the 1764th time. Always enjoy it as if its my first time seeing it. Always a great fix when you're craving some Halloween spirit.

I'm just messing with ya.
Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...

I know. But, as I was saying before, I will probably get 'the bug' around the end of August. Right now, I want to go riding.

It was a decent movie, very vintage feel to it. Got a little slow in the middle and very bizzare at the end

I'm seriously bitten. I've already ordered a new werewolf to join the growing pack and have booked the room for the Ghoultide Gathering. One of the hotels already sold out, so I'm glad I was able to get a room. I've started planning my Halloween party, ordered a new Halloween book from Amazon (Trick or Treat: A History of Halloween), and am considering breaking into the Halloween totes. I have some decorations up all year too, but sometimes you just need a bigger hit.

And I am so jealous of Big Guh finding candy corn. My husband has made pumpkin bread, though. So I shouldn't complain too much.

I also saw some autumn themed stuff at Hobby Lobby. Not a lot that was specifically Halloween, mostly pumpkins, fall leaves, and autumn scented candles, but I'll take what I can get. Etsy and ebay are always great sources for a look-see, too.
We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Well like I said, I'll definately be looking for orange smoke bombs when I make that fireworks shopping trip to Indiana the next time I see a paycheck. Just because I haven't been seriously chewed up by 'the bug,' doesn't mean that I don't have a little Halloween mosquito bite or two. In fact, I did actualy plug in my plastic jack o'lanterns yesterday evening to see if any of the bulbs need to be replaced.
