Botched Halloween Costumes, Decor, etc.

Post by jengraves86 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:29 am

What's the worst Halloween-related item or costume you've ever made? Mine was a home-made Michael Myers costume. I have a latex allergy so buying a Michael Myers mask was out of the question. Also, I was out of work that year so I decided to make my own costume. I used one of my Halloween How-To books to make a mask out of paper mache. I didn't have a mannequin head or anything that resembled a head for that matter, so I knew the shape was going to be off. The book said to fold up a few pieces of newspaper and mold a frame for your face. The you had to figure out how to shape a face in the frame with a balloon and aluminum foil.Well, when it was finished it looked like Michael got his face smashed into a wall. And then I had to make a brown wig and thought that brown yarn would be a good idea. I basically made a halo shape to fit my head and then tied strings of yarn around it to look like hair. By the time everything was finished I looked like an Albino Raggedy Ann. And everyone thought I was Michael Jackson (?!).
Worst costume ever!

My daughter grew up with all of the "adults" crazy antics and parties, so one day when she was about ten...she came to me and said "I know what I want to be at Halloween"..me,"what dear", she says " Gene Simmons, from Kiss". She was a little tiny girl..and I'm like..allrighty then. Costume turned out great.
The next here, here we go again. "I want to be Spongebob Squarepants". I say " What the hell is a Spongebob Squarepants?" Costume turned out great (once she pulled it up on the internet for me)
Nex year..."I want to be an oompa loompa" "What the hell is an oompa loompa?"
Again, internet search and I'm like...hmmm...okay. Costume still came out good.
Year four...." I want to be Michael Jackson the year he caught his hair on fire in the Pepsi Commercial" WTF? Turn a little white girl into Michael Jackson WITH burned up hair. Sure
No problem.... Wow..I don't know what she looked like, but it wasn't that!!!!LOL

I had myself a lucky botch one year when I was carving a pumpkin. I was about 12, and I was carving a face, only I forgot that I was going to put diomand shaped eyes instead of the traditional triangles, so I completed the face, and then I carved my intended face on the other side of the same jack o'lantern, and it actualy came out pretty goog. A two-faced jack o'lantern. One face faced out the window for the ToTers while the other stared into our living room. My moma actualy thought I did it purposly and liked the idea.

I wish I still had the mask so I could post a pic! I had another costume that was fairly botched. When I was about 19 my brother and I decided to go as floating jack-o-lanterns. (By the way I didn't stop TOTing till I was 20 :D Yes I look THAT young and still do at 25!) We carved out pumpkins to wear on our heads and had black sheets draped over our bodies to make it look like we were floating. And then we stuck glo-sticks on the inside to make the head glow. The costumes were a hit but we both had serious bruises on our heads for about a week afterward.

Jade, I don't care if you're 20, 30, or 90. If you come to my house with a costume like that, and TOT, I'll give you and your brother both a whole 2 POUND BAG of Snickers Bars. I would PAY to have seen that get-up.
