Smoke machine tip

Post by The Traveller » Fri May 20, 2011 10:52 am

Last Halloween I hunted high and low for a dry ice machine to add atmosphere to the party, but they were either extremely expensive or just not available. So I plumped somewhat grumpily for a standard smoke machine, thinking mist was almost as good.

However, I was in for a delightful Halloween surprise.

Living in a two storey house in a cool northern climate country, we had the party downstairs, and I put the smoke machine at the top of the stairs, with a couple of windows open, and candles all the way up the steps. What happened then was the cold air in the upper floor actually caused the smoke to roll down stairs like a waterfall, and disperse throughout the lower floor.

Awesome, especially since I had the eerie sound effects track blasting full volume up there too.

That sounds really cool, Traveller. What kinda lighting did you use? Have you got any pics?

I had a couple of UV lamps and a disco ball (the multicoloured kind). Sadly I didn't think to take any photos of the waterfall effect, I only have pictures of the impressively or scantily clad guests. :(

Absolute awesomeness. That's exactly what I was thinking of when I went shopping. Have you any DIY details?
