HALLOWE'EN

this is just a little free style writting while sitting here at work
Why couldn’t time just dwell on tonight,
The night of corn stalks, nuts, and apples,
Merry making and masks,
Games are played on neighbors
Husband’s names are found in mirrors
Divinations and fortunetelling.
The women stand there in the woods
Not daring to see the full moon for the first time…
Not over their left shoulder they won’t
In each hand salt
Locked in age old traditions
The men gather in their masks,
A bag to their hips to fill with sweets and bread
And to those who give none
Should find a trick played while in bed
Tonight is fast
Perhaps faster than them all
The tu ka tu hoo of an owl calls
And fangs flung through air with wings
Tonight’s fire will end when the souls go back
Tonight is Hallowe’en
Why couldn’t time just dwell on tonight,
The night of corn stalks, nuts, and apples,
Merry making and masks,
Games are played on neighbors
