Halloween Poem
What is the meaning
of hallowe'en?
To us it is the commercial feeling!
Children's faces gleaming,
when they think of what will be seen.
The time has come
to carve a pumpkin,
to make the best Jack-O'-Lantern!
The time to think of something
to go and trick-or-treat in,
from being a ghost,
to dracula, a silly skeleton
and the one loved most -
a scary, old, green pimpled witch!
To dress the house,
to make a switch
from bright to dark,
cold and dull,
concoctions made and cobwebs lark.
A time of year
that most look upon so dear
without some thought of fear -
filed with laughter
and ghouling ghosts!
A chily night will be there after,
a sense of mystery everywhere.
So the time has come to dress up,
which will cause all to stare.
Bats and spiders everywhere,
watch out for that coffin
whilst you are greedily scoffin',
on your hard earned candy!
A tap on the shoulder,
as you look around, who could it be?
And there is no-one to see!
So trick-or-treat
is the question asked;
the obvious answer,
here's a sweet!
of hallowe'en?
To us it is the commercial feeling!
Children's faces gleaming,
when they think of what will be seen.
The time has come

Very good. I wish there was a clapping/applauding emoticon I could use.

Thanks!TheHallow1 wrote:Very good. I wish there was a clapping/applauding emoticon I could use.
Perhaps this emoticon will have to do? (thumleft) or (thumright)
It would be cool though if we could have one like you suggested.

Love that penultimate stanza, when the TOTer looks around after a tap on the shoulder, and there is nobody there!

Re: Halloween Poem
Great poem, Jack! I really like the celebratory feel.
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, and I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep. Did you hear me butterfly? Miles to go before you sleep."

Re: Halloween Poem
Thanks for the praise everybody!
I can't take the credit though as it was my wife who wrote it. She's a budding writer & she asked me to put it on here as she's aware that I post on here. She also has it on a writing site she sends items into, where it was also well received.
I'll pass on the praise to her though.
Thanks again!
