Those wacky Victorians!

Post by Andybev01 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 7:10 pm

I've seen many examples of these funeral photos before but this one totally creeped me out.

It's bad enough that his eyes are still open, but the angle makes it seem as if he is just rising up to come after the viewer.

I couldn't sleep with that hanging in my living room.

If you find any of these century old wonders feel free to share them here.

I just saw those recently. I can't remember if it was a book or a website I saw it on, but it had a bunch of creepy corpse photos. I'll try and remember and show it off here.

Fun Fact: Those eyes are painted on the lids.
Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...

I'd like to get my hands on a copy of this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Secure-Shadow-Dea ... 601&sr=1-1

I'm thinking it would give me some wicked nightmares, though.

A friend of mine, whose family is in the funeral biz, takes coffin portraits at their relatives funerals.
I suppose it isn't that uncommon even in the 21st century.

But the mourners don't pose with the corpse, do they?

Good point. No, not tat I have seen, any way.

I was looking through one of heir numerous family albums and lo and behold, there was his fathers pic from 1999. I almost tossed my cookies.

You'd think they'd have a separate album for that... :?

Death is the great social equalizer, so I think it is appropriate to include it in the record of someone's life, but I do think a little 'head-up' would be in order.

Can do, as long as you're willing to sign a waiver absolving me of responsibility should you happen to develop a case of the heebie jeebies...

And if I can bring myself to pay a hundred fifty bucks to look at pictures of dead people. :?
