Re: Forgotten Decorations
I've been fortunate enough not to have to deal with a rotten easter egg popping up, although I have had other things happen to me that were unrelated to holidays. Like, once I found mold in my coffee pot at college when me and a friend were trying to clean out my dorm room.
We usually avoided that escapade by keeping the real colored eggs in the fridge, and my mom *erhem* Peter CottonTail, would hide plastic eggs filled with candy instead.
I suppose I can't blame someone for wanting to play Christmas music in July, there is the whole "Christmas in July" Thing going on, and since my birthday's in July, it's literally LIKE having a Christmas in July. I for one love the transiberian orchestra, who plays Heavy Metal Christmas music, and that I don't mind so much. I even put on Christmas music as a joke when I used to work at Dollar General.
Speaking of early Christmas, one of our neighbors in town has a snowman outside, one of those plastic ones. I thought it was funny and random actually. I thought maybe she put it out because of the intense heat to make her think it was cooler out. Either that or she was playing a joke. I'm not sure, if I see her I'll ask her.
I agree with Jadewik in that I think they shouldn't have Christmas stuff out when it's Halloween season. There's one exception to this rule however, and that's if someone's doing a nightmare before christmas theme!
Having a fall themed house would be neat, and I for one enjoy a good rustic look with my dream home being a cozy log cabin in the woods with a fireplace and such. I don't think I'd want pumpkins out all year, although things like black cats and skeletons would be alright.
Pumpkins belong in two holidays: Halloween and Thanksgiving. After that, it's time for Christmas stuff, then Valintines, then St Patty's and then Easter. Then it's time for normal year round decor, although I put out some american flag stuff for american holidays.
I'm such a nut.
I wonder if anyone else feels Halloween is the start of the holidays. I mean, they say "the holiday season" is in December, but I actually consider Halloween the start of a string of Holidays, you have Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Then Christmas, and then New Year's. To call Christmas the holidays is absurd because there's more than one holiday. It's also insulting to traditionalists who want to wish someone a merry christmas instead of happy holidays or seasons greetings.

This probably seems crazy, crazy, a graveyard theory,
A ghost tried to approach me and got leery.
Ask him a question and he vanished in a second...

Re: Forgotten Decorations
DEmon"Slayer, I allways use to think of Halloween and even the whole month of October as the "gate way" to the holiday season, but like you, I think the entire 3 month period of October, November and December are all the "Holiday Season." And I allways say "Merry Christmas" as the traditionalist I am. Also, as a traditionalist, I dont go in for the "Christmas in July" thing. It just doesn't work for me. That doesn't mean that others shouldn't have their fun. My late brother loved Christmas, and was allways making plans for it through out the entire year. I also love all the other holidays like St. Pattys Day and Easter. I can't say I'm too much of a Valentines Day fan, but I will watch the "Charlie Brown" valentines day tv specials that I have on DVD when it comes around. Other then that, that's pretty much all the observing I do. The 4th of July is a very close 2nd to Halloween for me, because I love fire works. My birthday, incidently is on July 24th. Nothing better then a July birthday IMHO. When I was a kid, it was like having my own personal Christmas right in the middle of Summer. To boot, there was no school so it didn't matter what day of the week the 24th of July fell on, I was off.
Hallows Qieen, I don't have any Halloween decorations up now, but I did listen to my home spun Halloween CD this morning while I took my shower. I also just finished watching "Soylent Green." I would highly reccomend that film to any Halloween/End-of-the-World movie fan.

hahaha while trimming my edge grass the other day i found a grim reaper hanging thing in the grass.. i was stoked.. the little man made it this far.. i just left him and will hang him back up (the right thing to do) when mid September gets here
Last night 'twas witching Hallowe'en
Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

The exact same thing happened to me! I was walking along and found my little grim reaper guy that hangs in the wind beside my house in the long grass ...I was wondering where he got to lol So I hung him back onto the porch where he belongs...maybe that's what brought this cold fall weather alongadrian wrote:hahaha while trimming my edge grass the other day i found a grim reaper hanging thing in the grass.. i was stoked.. the little man made it this far.. i just left him and will hang him back up (the right thing to do) when mid September gets here

Re: Forgotten Decorations
My brother had a place out in Princeton Ill where we would have our family Halloween Bonfires. My niece had all kinds of hanging decorations that she would put up all over the place. Ghosts, jack o'lanterns, grim reapers, skelitons, you name it. They were everywhere. During the Summer time, it was my job to mow the lawn out there. My brother has this John Deer tractor designed specificaly for the job. A few years back, I was mowing the large field down below the bluff. It was a swelptering hot day, and the engine was also running a little hot. I decided to take a break after making one more swath, and as I was cutting that swath, I noticed womething that looked like a witch fly out the side discharge.
I went and checked it out, and sure enough one of my nieces hanging Halloween decorations had fallen in the tall grass and I didn't see it. I ran it over with the tractor. All but her head was completely shredded by the blades under the mower deck.
