Winter Doldrums

Post by Pumpkin_Man » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:45 pm

Well, as much as I love the last quarter of the year, January and February are the two worst months for me. Winter doldrums have set in, and it's only the 4th of Jan right now. At least I'll be busy with my new camera, and "The Wolf Man" will be playing at my local theatre on Feg 12th.

But I'm READY FOR SPRING.

Amen brother!

I despise winter (even the mild, California ones).

I need sunshine and lots of it.

Lucky for us all that the winter solstice has passed and the days are getting longer! :D

Actually, I prefer the cold over any heat and humidity any day. I was born with a cleft lip and palate and while they repaired the lip several times, my nasal passages are not as wide as most people so I have a harder time breathing when it is warm. I live in a third floor condo with water heat and my thermostat never goes above 62. The problem with water heat is that it warms up the condo fast but cooling it down can take days. During the summer, it can be 10-12 degrees warmer inside than it is outside. In Michigan with the humidity due to the lakes, that is not good. I don't care for the bright sun either...

Maybe I am a vampire....

I always prefer cold to hot, with cold you can warm up with clothes and blankets, when it's hot.......you're screwed

That's the way I feel, too. There's only so many layers you can take off, unless you live in a nudist colony. And even then, sometimes even wearing skin can be too warm!!

 to the no-skin guy!

IDK. I think maybe I like hot better than cold, probably because I grew up in Mississippi, where we got a lot more heat than cold. I think I take the heat better.

I'm trying to make King Cake today, like they do in New Orleans on Jan. 6, the kick-off to the Mardi Gras season. I've never done this before, so I'm not sure how successful I'm going to be.

After Jan 6, there's Valentine's to celebrate. I know that in England in the Middle Ages, they regarded Valentine's Day as the beginning of spring. So really, spring isn't too far off. Here in Middle TN, we'll be seeing daffodils by the end of February.

At my age, the whole year seems to just race by, anyway. I try to enjoy all the seasons as they come.

Murfreesboro I agree with 100% about the weather. :D

It's still cold here on Valentines day, it's still cold till March or April!!!

I love Mardi Gras cake I have never tried to make it tho, it it very hard to make? It looks like alot of work.

I agree about the weather. It's a lot easier to warm up when I'm cold then it is to cool down when I'm all hot and sweaty. My problem with Winter is the boardom. There's just not a whole lot to do for fun during January and Feb. It likely stems from my childhood. Jan and Fed were allways like two months of Mondays. It's also two very dead months following October, November and December, which are very full and active months.
