RIP - Edward Woodward

Post by iHaunt » Mon Nov 16, 2009 4:52 pm

He has died at 79, and he is survived by his wife Michelle and four children. He was in one of his best-known roles as a police officer out of depth among pagans on a remote Scottish island in the cult film "The Wicker Man".

May he rest in peace, and he will be missed! :(

OMG, I missed Edward Woodward's death! He was a favorite of mine. Loved him in The Equalizer ('80s TV show), also in the film Breaker Morant and, of course, as the Ghost of Christmas Present (best one ever , IMO) in George C. Scott's Christmas Carol.

I have The Wicker Man on video but, honestly, I don't like it much. It's not EW's fault--he plays his role well. But I just don't like how that movie ends. To me, it undermines the values the policeman stands for. He may be a prude in many respects, but he is genuinely heroic when he is willing to risk so much for the child, and then--well, it's all just a wicked trick. Not my kind of movie, I guess.

I have that version of Wicker Man, too.
RIP Edward.
