ever heard of the united negro college fund, thats just one option people who dont have money can take advantage of to get an education and it doesnt take from rich peter to support poor paul. There is also scholarships kids can win if they apply them selves and many other ways.
Know what there also are? Student loans. And here is a perfect, specific, NON-SOCIALIST example of why I voted for Obama.

Currently, federal student loans for college are routed through banks. In other words, the government collects tax money, then loans it to banks at a very low interest rate, who loan it to students at a much higher interest rate so they can go to college. Obama campaigned on and is currently fighting to shepherd through Congress legislation that will change the program, cutting out the middle man. (http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/ ... me=topNews) When he signs the bill into law, the federal government will loan the money directly to students, who will be able to go to college without accumulating a mountain of debt in the process. I think most of us would agree this is a good idea; so why would congressional conservatives be opposing it?

Spookymufu wrote:Obama got to be elected president not because he made something of himself, thats how he got to congress, he got to be president because;

1. he promised to take money from the rich and give to the not so rich, so he pretty much bought votes.

2. his election was a knee-jerk reaction to the anti Bush feeling at the end of his term thanks in no small part to the liberal press giving Bush a raw deal

3. he promised to pull out troops from Iraq and that made the far left nuts happy

4. Acorn

5. the liberal press made a sweet heart out of him and vilified McCain and beat Palin to a pulp

6. because he wasnt a white Republican
I can go through this point by point, number by number, and if you love the sound of my typed voice I'd be happy to in private message so everyone else (who I guarantee, by this point, can not STAND the sound of my typed voice!!!) doesn't have to slog through it. But in summary:

1. Bull.

2. Rubbish

3. Half truths

4. Nuts

5. Poppycock

6. Positively oozing with undertones I'm not sure I want to wade into

Spookymufu wrote:as far as taxes, I think a flat tax would be a more fair way to go, yes it would mean the rich get richer but again, anyone can make something more of them selves if they are willing to sacrafice and work hard. Give people something to shoot for if they are so inclined.
Again, even under the most LIBERAL, the most LEFT-WING, the Bernie Sanders MSNBC Michael Moore Dennis Kucinich tax structure, the millionaire would still take home THIRTEEN TIMES what the guy earning $50,000 takes home. That's not something to shoot for?!? That's not more fair?!? Really? Take away an extra eight grand from you, that's more fair?!

I mean, look. I understand why millionaires argue for the flat tax. I get it. I do not, I can not, I will never understand why average people complain that they pay too much in taxes, and complain about how their tax money is spent, and then argue that it is more fair if they pay more so a millionaire can pay less. I just don't get it. Dude; the millionaire still takes home THIRTEEN TIMES what you do!! It's plenty fair! He's doing fine!!

Anyway, this has been fun. :) Send me a PM if your eyes aren't exhausted... :wink: :wink:

Ahh screw it! I was gonna post what made me mad today but this thread only seems to
be about politics. Hint: the thing that made me mad today was someone trying to push
their political beliefs on me.

Dearest; an apple russet- brown
I pared, and thrice above my crown
Whirled the long skin; they watched in keen;
I flung it far; they laughed and cried me shame
Dearest, there lay the letter of your name!

Folks, I do remember there was a thread that the original post asked us what religion we were, and one of the moderators locked it up. It was also on the "off topic" board to boot, so I have a feeling that religion and politics are not really popular around here anyway. I do have my religious beliefs and political opinions, but I don't want to be banned or have this thread locked because it drifted too far off topic.

This thread is about things that make people angry in general. There are a lot of politicians who make me angry. Likewise, I am also tired fo the chakanery of my older brother, who tends to BELLOW his uninformed opinions at me when it comes to my faith. I can go on, but then religion is not a hot topic in these message boards.

Now personaly, in the "off topics" message board, I think you should be allowed to talk about what ever you please, with the exception of something obscene that would not be conducive to a family type of a web site, but I think if we want this thread to stay unlicked, we should probably stay away from politics and religion, except for basic references.

Mike

That's so true, Adrien. Additionaly, the topics of religion and politics, no matter how diplomatic or polite you are, will allways make some one angry. I learned that the hard way when I was in college. I don't want to get into the whole story here is I don't want to start another long discussion, but to make a long story short, I was very 'free and easy' with my political views and religious views when I was young and in college, and it got me in trouble on numerous ocassions. I made a real jerk of myself once, when I angered one of my teachers with my opinions about the Democratic Party. I've even seen fist fights break out over those two topics, so it is a very sensitive issue. Personaly I don't care what opinion anyone expresses. I've been told to my face that I'm some kind of a "backwards moron" because of my faith, and I've also been told how stupid I am on account of my political views. It doesn't bother me a whole lot, because I have to consider the source. However, the reason those things were said is because something that I said was either misconstrued as to mean something totaly different then what I intended to say, or the other person was so die-hard in disagreemet that he didn't want to tolerate my view. Which ever the case, religion and politics are not good topics to talk about, unless you are in a forum where those are the primary topics.

Mike
