Well, ihaunt I am sorry for your friend but what he did was wrong and will probably get the book thrown at him. You just can't do that...something is wrong with him if he is willing to go after an armed police officer.

Right or wrong, the cops have the upper hand. The law, courts, parole boards, prison officials, politicians, government and the majority of the people are on their side. Back in the 60s, it was "cool" to dis cops and call them "the fuzz," or "pigs," but now a days, especialy after the 9/11 attacks, cops are looked at as "American heros," much like war veterens and fire fighters are. What authority that was not given to the police through Bush Sr's War on Drugs, was given to them by the Patriot Act and the 9/11 after math.

In short, there's no way of beating a cop at their own game. And they do have a very dangerous and often thankless occupation. I personaly do think that some of them are heros, and there should be laws prohibiting them being assulted. I don't buy into the mythology that surrounds them, mind you, but I do respect the occupation. We need law enforcement so we can be safe in our homes, not have everything we work for stolen from us, and to maintain society. Without law and order, there is no civilization. Life would be like it was in the Dark Ages, right after Rome fell, or like it's depicted in the "Mad Max" movies.

Glad to see your still alive and kicking, mate. If you aren't around as much, I guess I'll just have to direct more of the dung I fling in Andy's direction, won't I....

True. And he quit smoking, so he's not as quickly winded when running and dodging.

He's still older than dirt, though.

I have no problem with profiling, if your looking for a criminal that is black and wearing a green shirt, you stop EVERY black guy wearing a green shirt until you get the right one. If your looking for illegal mexicans you dont go looking for white business men

however, there are plenty of cops that abuse their power (several in the news lately) and those guys give all other cops a bad reputation. I have known lots of cops, and have been related to quite a few and there are plenty of jerks in uniform to be sure, but most are pretty decent. Especially now with cameras all over the place.

The simple truth is, the way to avoid problems with the cops is dont break the law, and cooperate with them if they do contact you, pretty simple. Like I tell my son, staying out of jail is easy, simply dont break the law.

Going after a suspect who happens to be Black and wearing a green shirt is not racial profiling. Racial profiling is the practice of rounding up or susecting ALL people of Arab Decent, because some Arabs committ acts of terrorism. Racial profiling is suspecting that ALL Mexicans are "illegal aliens," and treating them all the same. You don't see that being done to everyone of Italian ancestry. For instance, it's a well known fact that the Italian Mafia is a very powerful and murderous organization, who's influence stretches around the glob, yet we don't treat all Italians as though they were in it, or stereotype all Italians as "Mobsters." The IRA (Irish Republican Army) is responsible for many deaths and major destructions in many places. Yet, we don't profile everyone of Irish ancestry. Do we? Automobile theft and "chop" shops are primarily a White Male crime. Why isn't every white mail "Profiled" as a potential car theif? Prostitution is primarily a Woman's crime. Why aren't we profinlig all women as potential prostitutes? The reason is because it would be WRONG AND UNFAIR. It would also garner dispresect for the groups in question. It would create a harmful stereo type against all White Men as car thieves, all women as prostituts or all Italians are in the Mob.

Why do we suspect all Arabs and Mexicans of being criminals? Why do we suspect all African Americans as drug users or dealers? Only a tiny minority of them are. But those are the 3 groups who we primarily profile. Why is that?

If your friend blatantly assaulted an officer, he deserves arrest.
