Heh heh heh... Imagine that... abusing peoples' faith or desire for a religious framework to guide their lives just to make a quick buck. I have never heard of such a thing!

I just assumed he was some guy influenced by the devil.

The devil tempts us to sin, so he was probably both a fraud AND influenced by the devil. I very much do believe that the "church" he started is VERY MUCH influenced and even possessed by the devil.

Sin is just a scam designed to take all the fun out of life, and Satan is a fictional character created so movies like The Exorcist and The Omen wouldn't seem cheesy. I'm having none of it!!

Oh, by the way... did anyone remember back in 1993 about the cult leader David Koresh's Waco Massacre in Texas? I've never forgotten about that one. :(

Oh, yes, of course. I'm not sure our government handled that correctly. I have heard since that that fellow Koresh was out and about in the community at times. He could have been picked up without the massacre.

MacPhantom, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one, but I don't want to turn this into a debate on religion.

Yes, I do remember what happened in Waco Texas, and while that might have been based on the Christian Bible, I certainly believe that satan had a hand in that horror, as I believe he had a hand in the Jonestown Massechre, and the Branch Dividians, and all other cults that glorify suicide.

Were the Branch Davidians the ones who killed themselves because of the Hale-Bopp comet? Or was that Koresh's group?

I'd have to agree that if these suicidal groups are not directly inspired by Satan, he must certainly rejoice over them, nevertheless.

Fair enough, Mike.

The Davidians were the ones out of Waco, Murf. It was Heaven's Gate that were chasing the comet. What did they all have in common? A lack of critical examination of what they believed, and the desire to trust in unsubstantiated promises of a better afterlife from charismatic Leaders. People who are lost are easily taken advantage of, and the results are almost always tragic. :(

Religion is not the only "cult" that lost people can be conned into joining. Hitler's Nazi party was every bit as much a "cult" as was Jonestown, and the results were horrendous. Many Neo Nazies today look at Hitler as a "saviour," or even a "godhead." It's down right scary at times when you see the "shrines" set up to Hitler.

The Nazi party was a political movement that gained power in a country and forced it's citizens to join at gunpoint. I think you're right to say that Neo-nazis are drawn in the same way many cult members are, but I don't think it was quite the same situation in WWII Germany.

And iHaunt, I think Manson has to die first before he can return from the dead. Unless I've been misinformed....I may need more info....

The only ones who ever thought that was real were the ones who already voted for her. 8)
