I am a little worried about how Rob Zombie is going to change the story of Michael Myers, as well as the character himself.

Hadn't heard about this one, thanks for the tip, Nostalgiascape. I'll have to do some reading up, but my opinion is...why mess with perfection??

Compare from John Carpenter's Halloween to Rob Zombie's Halloween... I really can't say that. I really can't vote for that unless I have to see it first.

I will always love the original, as with most things. But I like Rob Zombie a lot, and place him highly among the newer generation of horror movie directors. You've got to admire him for giving it a try, and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now. He seems to genuinely love the genre and pays a lot of tribute to the classics in his work, both musically and theatrically. As much as I love the older stuff, I'm afraid that he is the future of horror cinema and regardless of what my personal tastes may be, unless I just want to watch the same old (wonderful!) movies forever (which actually isn't all that bad of a thing either!) I'd better at least try to accept some of the newer stuff.

I gotta tell you, though, it may be a sign of my age, but I really didn't like the remake of the Hills Have Eyes. So much pointless death. It seems like in the old days only the slutty girls and their jerky boyfriends got killed, and the virtuous heros lived and saved the day. If anyone innocent died, then someone else avenged their death, at least. I really didn't like seeing so many people who so thoroughly didn't deserve it get killed so brutally. But maybe that's just proof that it is a true horror movie, because it was truly horrific to me.

You know, I just read a great artice in Premiere magazine about the new horror genre. The author referred to it as "torture porn", and talked about how starkly real it all was, no gateways to a spiritual 'dark side', but just bad, bad people playing games of torture and death with (most often) innocent victims. Used to be fear and suspense was used to freak us out, now it's just blatant gore, suffering, and cruelty, with a decidedly sadistic edge. I'm not a big fan of this new wave of horror flicks, I liked it better when the suggestion of terror was enough to terrorize us.

That is a perfect way to describe it and as usual, someone besides me said it better. Those folks at Premier know what they're talking about. I'm still a "fear and suspense" girl, though. I would rather watch The Woman in Black, which most people would say is slow and boring, but to me is so spooky and atmospheric, and it creeps me out every time!

One of the things I mentioned on the other thread about how Halloween became important to you was that it reminded me of a time when the only things I was afraid of were imaginary, modern "torture porn" horror movies make me afraid of the people I pass on the streets every day. That's not Halloween fun, it's just sad and pathetic.

Modern horror is a disturbing outlet for those compelled to watch sadists supremely violate and cause ultimate suffering to the innocent. It is an arrow straight to the heart of it. They may as well be screening shockumenteries.

I didn't really like that movie too much. I really think they played it out by making more and more parts to it. I dont think it's worth a remake.
