The original Poltergeist scared the bejebus out of me. I saw it in the theater and was thinking "PG, how bad can it be?" Oh yeah, I wanted to crawl under my seat during the scenes with the clown doll.
The Shinning was pretty creepy as well. So was Angel Heart. The first time I saw it I had a difficult time following it, but the last seen with the baby looking at the main character just creeped me out no end.

We're the farmer's scarecrows
We scare away the birds,
We keep the farmer's corn safe
Without any words.
But when Halloween comes
We jump out of the ground
And we scare the boys and girls
When they come walking 'round.

Re: WHAT"S YOUR SCARIEST MOVIE"S !!!!!
Wolfen was a movie based on a book by Whitley Streiber, and I'm not a big fan of his, but I must confess that the premise behind the movie/book was original and I really liked the movie.
I can see where it was able to grab a nerve. Gregory Hines and Albert Finney were very convincing I thought as the coroner and the detective. I have never been able to find the movie as a solo dvd, but have it with a 4 pack set of horror movies.
I'm a big wolf lover and to see those really beautiful animals in their winter fur is enough for me to want to own the movie. There has been recorded attacks of pet wolves biting or attacking their owners in the US and Canada. But there has never been a confirmed case of attack by wild wolves killing humans anywhere in north america. So don't be scared if you see any in the wild.

ScareCrowJack, I remember the original "Poltergeist," too, and I agree. It was quite scary and very creepy. I actualy got creeped out whtn the tree came to life, broke through the glass, grabbed the little boy and swallowed him. The "Poltergiest" knew what scared everyone and was able to use that against his or her victims.

I like the original Poltergeist, too. One thing I like about it is that the family escapes at the end. I like being scared by a movie, but I also like it when things turn out OK.

That's the whole idea behind a scary movie, all though there were a lot of great horror stories that were not necessarily scary, but were good stories.
