Let the Season Commence...

Post by hippieluvn » Wed Aug 13, 2008 5:11 pm

I stayed home from work today, closed the blinds, turned down the lights, ate junk, and watched horror movies to kick off the Halloween season in style! There's nothing quite like playing hookie--from work as an adult--to make you feel like a kid again... Haha

First, I watched three Vincent Price (my fav) flicks: House of Wax, Theater of Blood, and Madhouse. After that I saw RZ's Halloween. Now, I've decided to begin a Tales from the Darkside marathon, by finally taking the time to watch the collection that I recently purchased on Ebay. I just finished the first (pilot) episode titled "Trick or Treat." It was written by George Romero, and first aired on October 29, 1983. Here's a quick description of the episode:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ta ... e_episodes
A hated and spiteful old man offers trick-or-treaters the chance to search his house for their parents' mortgages, only to terrify them with animatronic "spirits." Unfortunately for him, the old man finds himself the victim of a particularly frightening trick-or-treater, namely a real demon.

You folks are the only people who could appreciate such a grand day!

Yeah!!! Same thing to me almost every night after 8 o' clock, I always close the door, the curtains, turn off the lights where it is all darky in the living room and watch some horror movies, well, sometimes some foreign horror cultures!! :D

When the movie is over, I always take a shower about 10 o' clock, then turn on the computer to surf online, chat online, and post on any boards until about 1 o' clock in the morning, then ahead off to work until 8 am.

I posted this in Halloween General, but figured I'd share it here as well:

OK, I've decided that Wednesday will be my last day of work for the week, as I officially kick off the Halloween season this weekend! Along with a few other activities, I plan to chill out and watch many horror flicks over the course of these four days.

I have a few non-Halloween activities: Tomorrow night, my girl and I have tickets for Willie Nelson at Radio City Music Hall. And on Friday night, I'll definitely be watching the 1st presidential debate of the 2008 election. Be sure to watch, folks!

The rest of the weekend will be filled with relaxing strolls through Central Park to enjoy the cool weather of the fall season, takeout food, and a four-day fright fest!

Over the weekend, I plan to watch:
House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price version)
The Last Man on Earth (Vincent Price version)
Fright Night
JC's Halloween
RZ's Halloween
Halloween III
Salem's Lot (old & new versions)

I'd also like to watch a few zombie movies, but may have to rent those. I'll be thinking of you guys, and may come by once in a while to keeo you updated on the progress of HippieLuvn's 1st Weekend of Halloween!

This is totally random, but the word commence is so odd. To me it sounds like the ending of something, but it's the exact opposite. Ok, that was the random thought of the day.

For some reason, I am on more of a haunted house kick then on the usual monster kick, so I am going to kick off October with a double feature. The original version of "The Haunting," and then "The Changeling." I also would like to find as many haunted prison or insane asylum movies as I can find for this Halloween season, too.

Of course, I will not neglect Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolf Man, and all the sequels thay spawned. Halloween without Boris Karlov, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. would be like Halloween with out Pumpkins.

And let us not forget good ole Charlie Brown, in "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." Despite the fact that I'm almost old enough to retire, I won't let this October go by without screaning that all time classic at least 3 times. Mostl likely as a pre flick cartoon to when I watch one of my horror flicks.

Hey, I like that home cinema idea: watching a Halloween-themed cartoon before the horror movie feature presentation; it's like the good ole days of movies! :D

That's exactly why I do it. Back when I was a kid, my dad use to take us to the Marquette Theatre in Chicago. They had a huge silver screan, and before the movie began, they would always show a cartoon. I snuck there by bus to see "Race With the Devil" back in the Summer of 75.

Anyway, my home set-up consists of a state of the art stereo system, DLP projector and a silver screan. I belong to a news group that's dedicated to the old WGN tv show "Creature Features." It's a "yahoo" group. Anyway, we vote every week on a movie, and when we have a title that we are going to watch, O go to Netflix and order the movie. Then on Saturday night at 10, I start my pre flick cartoon, then at 10:30, I put in my voted on movie, and as a little extra frosting on the proverbial cake, I cook something as a nightly entre.

In October, I like to screan "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown," but I don't necessarily screan it before every movie.
