I love vegetarian food. I think it can be really tasty in it's own way. I'm not at all averse to serving it. I just wouldn't want it to be my only diet.

MacPhantom wrote:Hey Witchy... How about chicken wings?? Throw a bit of garlic powder and black pepper on 'em, and roast 'em in a pan in the oven for about half an hour. Then slather them with Frank's Wing Sauce, and back in the oven for ten more minutes. Turn 'em over, more wing sauce, ten more minutes in the oven. Easy, tasty, and unusual for Thanksgiving!
Or how about something for the vegetarians at your table? Lightly steamed broccoli tossed in some garlic butter? Or a baked mac and cheese... I like to use penne pasta, make a Béchamel sauce (make a rue with half a stick of butter and half a cup of flour, then whisk in four cups of whole milk or half and half and cook until it starts to thicken), and then melt in sharp cheddar and Fontina cheese. How about a rum cake? I use a yellow boxed cake mix (if you do a scratch cake, even better!) in a bundt pan that has walnuts and pecans sprinkled on the bottom (which turns into the top). Bake it like normal, then when it comes out the oven, drizzle it with a glaze made from a stick of butter, a cup of sugar, quarter cup of water, and then, after bringing all of that to a boil for three minutes, take it off the heat and carefully add in a half cup of rum. Brush that glaze all over the cake, until it's all shiny and yummy!!
That whole post made me salivate. And maybe moan too, but in an appropriate way.

vegetarians and vegans are usually pretty annoying people in general, so I dont think my kid would be interested in that, also, we're all meat eaters and I cant see him giving up meat for anyone

Re: Whats your favorite food for Thanksgiving?
Maybe it's just the veggies and vegans in Texas. The ones around here are all very nice people, who don't hold it against meat eaters or try to be all snooty. They just eat different stuff, for health reasons or ethical reasons. And your son wouldn't have to give up meat to date a veggie. There are lots of inter-dietary couples these days. It's 2010 for heaven's sake!!!

My favorite is pecan pie! Can't get enough!
Although, I'm going to try your mac and cheese recipe, Mac. That sounds like heaven!
I do a baked recipe, but I've never thought of the bechamel sauce.

I love peacan pie and pumpkin pie, but my two favorite Thanksgiving foods are the actual Turkey, (especialy the skin) and the Rice Crispie Cookies that were part of my family Thanksgiving tradition for as long as I can remember.
