Creating Realistic Tentacles

Hey, all! I've finally got a yard, after years of apartment dwelling, and it's time to get into yard haunting. I'm so excited :).

I'm starting small--tombstones, spiderwebs, etc.--but I'm looking towards a particular theme in the future. And I was wondering how you all might do some sort of monstrous tentacle, bursting up from the ground (or the bushes, actually). I was thinking of something like a wire coil frame with cloth or tarp wrapped around it--something flexible but waterproof--but I'm having trouble actually putting together the project. Has anyone ever worked with tentacles before, that could share some ideas?

nice idea, and congrats on the yard! I know how exciting it is to go fom decorating a little porch to having a full piece of yard to decorate

off the top of my head I'm thinking of that spring coiled silver duct that they use for AC units. I'm thinking it has a complex name but it's probably something like "vent tubing" That could be a starting point.

I'm sure the folks around here will have even better ideas.

I'd thought along those lines myself, though I was thinking the tubing that's coming out the back of the dryer, to the vent. It's nice and wide--I don't want some skinny, anorexic tentacle! :) I've not been out to price it, though ...
