Well, that's exactly right. To each his own. I like scary and realistic, but there are plenty out there who love the cute look. The blow-up things are fun to see (I like the ones with bats); and certainly having little ones in your household changes your approach. My son is a teenager now, so that's...

DUH! :)

For my party, though, I'd really only need a flashlight that lasts an hour or so -- while people are arriving. Once they're inside, the streetlight won't matter.

I've got a friend coming in from out of town on Friday. He always comes in and helps my husband with the cooking and does all the grunt work; He'll be more likely to do this kind of thing, so once he's here, i'll have him read this message and get moving on it. THANKS!

WOW! I wish I could do that. I love thunderstorms anyway, and on Halloween would be perfect. But I'm not technologically savvy enough to do that, and my husband's not as fanatical as I am. Well, I guess I shouldn't complain. He makes me realistic vampire teeth that I can actually eat an apple with. ...

I'm with you. I want cool, scary and as realistic as possible. I want people to come to my door and walk away wondering if I REALLY am a witch who just 'comes out' for Halloween. There are times I worry that I'll disappear into the holiday and never be heard from again! Except every Halloween.

Thanks for the suggestions! I love the jack-o-lantern idea, but i'm not sure where i'd find a pumpkin big enough. Now, the photo cell is something i hadn't thought about. the fact is, all I'd really have to do is somehow block the light from triggering that cell. I could cover the photo sensor with ...

I forgot to mention: check out magazines. I have a great full page picture of Johnny Depp from a magazine a couple of years ago. He's wearing a great billowy Victorian looking shirt, slouched down in a chair. Everything in the room has the look of an old castle. I painted just the hint of fangs on h...

cheesecloth has gotten hard to find around my town, but Martha Stewart has a great (CHEAP) idea on her website. Just take a black lawn garbage bag and cut it into 2 inch wide strips, then pull them to stretch them out, and hang it in your doorway. Not a good description. Do a search for Martha Stewa...

you could always sneak back in the night and modify their decorations. I'm not talking about anything that would harm or deface their decorations. But if there's a Santa in his sleigh, you could add a witch cozying up to him; or add a few headstones, each with a little Christmas present, as if Santa...

streetlight

I'm preparing for my Halloween party, but the streetlight in my front yard is so bright it may as well be daylight. does anyone know of a way to black it out safely and effectively? (Besides shooting it out) It's got a rather Victorian look to it, and is only probably eight or nine feet tall. I've c...
